If you saw and loved the original live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film when it was released, two things are likely true. One, you’re old. And two, you also probably owned it on VHS. There’s no way to fix that first thing, but now there’s a way to bring you back to that second one.
Vice Press just announced that it’s going to release multiple variant editions of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on VHS. They have different boxes, different tape colors, and more. But, for us U.S. fans, we won’t be able to watch them because they’re in the UK’s PAL format. But either way, they look awesome.
There are three editions, each with slight differences. All three come with the green tape and an A3-sized poster by Matt Ferguson. Two, however, come with one of four spine stickers, so you can make the tape look like a ninja. The other one doesn’t have the sticker, but the slipcase artwork is reversible if you’re indecisive. Each version is about $55, with the slipcase limited to 200 pieces and the others to 400 each. Here are the images.
At the same time, the company is releasing two versions of the original theatrical one-sheet with credits and all. These are 24 x 36 inch lithographs that cost about $50 unframed and $140 framed. There’s a regular edition of 300 and a foil edition of 180.
The Turtles are coming back in a big way over the next few years. Most recently, there was an incredible new short film that was released in theaters (which is now streaming on Paramount+). Next, in 2027, will be the sequel to the excellent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. And then, after that, the Turtles will return to live action with an entirely new take on the characters.
Are people in the 2030s ready to keep the pizza flowing? We’ll have to see. But now you can at least bring back a bit of the 1990 glory. All of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles merch will be available at 1 p.m. ET on January 29 at Vice-Press.com. Read more here.
