The New ‘Exorcist’ and ‘Paranormal Activity’ Will Haunt Your 2027

Come next year, two horror franchises—The Exorcist and Paranormal Activitywill return to theaters, months apart from each other.

On Friday night, Universal dated the next Exorcist flick for March 13, 2027. Written and directed by Mike Flanagan, the film stars Scarlett Johansson and Jacobi Jupe. While details on this movie are currently scare, it’s been billed as a “radical new take” on the franchise, whose last installment was The Exorcist: Believer back in 2023. When Universal bought the franchise rights, Believer was meant to kick off a trilogy, but its poor reception prevented that. Flanagan’s currently-untitled movie won’t continue Believer’s story, but is in the same continuity as that and the 1973 original.

Separately, Paramount announced the eighth Paranormal film is coming on May 21, 2027. This one, we know even less about than Exorcist; it was only recently that the studio found a director in Ian Tuason, whose feature debut, the podcast horror flick undertone, arrives this March. Beyond their genre, Paranormal and Exorcist are linked by Jason Blum and James Wan, producing both via Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.

So, a new Exorcist on March 13, 2027, and a new Paranormal Activity on May 21 that same year. We’ll have more on both as news emerges.
